Kensington Market in January
Not the best time
January isn't ideal for Kensington Market. Consider a different month.
All Months
Summer brings Kensington Market to life, but it also brings crowds. July and August see the streets packed with tourists clutching cameras and moving at tourist speed. May and June offer the sweet spot — warm enough for street festivals but before the summer swarm arrives. The Pedestrian Sundays program runs May through October, closing Augusta Avenue to cars every Sunday from noon to 6 PM. Street performers, food vendors, and musicians take over the pavement. September and October might be the best months — the weather stays mild, students return (bringing energy back to the neighborhood), and you'll catch the last outdoor festivals before winter hits. Winter isn't dead here, though. The vintage shops stay cozy, the restaurants serve hearty comfort food, and you'll have the place mostly to yourself. Just bundle up — those narrow streets channel the wind like a tunnel.
