April through June brings perfect weather and Derby season energy. Louisville transforms during the first weekend in May - hotel rates triple, but the city buzzes with excitement. September and October deliver stunning fall colors across the Appalachian foothills. This is prime hiking season in Red River Gorge, with comfortable temperatures and clear skies. Summer gets sticky and hot, especially in July. But lake season kicks in at Kentucky Lake and Lake Cumberland.
