Most tourists flee by June, which means cheaper accommodation but miserable sightseeing conditions. Winter can be surprisingly cold with temperatures dropping below freezing, though sunny days are pleasant for walking. The shoulder seasons also coincide with fewer tour groups, so you'll have the monuments more to yourself. Book accommodation well ahead for April and October — these months fill up fast as word spreads about this place.
