Kyushu in July
Not the best time
July isn't ideal for Kyushu. Consider a different month.
All Months
March through May brings perfect weather and cherry blossoms without Tokyo's crowds. Temperatures hover around 60-70°F, ideal for hiking and hot spring hopping. Fall (September-November) offers similar conditions with autumn colors painting the volcanic landscapes. Summer gets brutally humid — July and August see temperatures above 90°F with constant rain during tsuyu (rainy season). But summer also means festival season, with Hakata Gion Yamakasa in July and fireworks over Kagoshima Bay. Winter stays mild compared to northern Japan, with January temperatures rarely dropping below 40°F. The hot springs feel even better when it's cool outside, and you'll have most attractions to yourself.
