Lesotho in December
Great time to visit
December is one of the best months to visit Lesotho.
All Months
Lesotho's seasons flip everything you know if you're coming from the north. Summer runs October through March, but that means afternoon thunderstorms and muddy roads in the highlands.
The sweet spot is October through December – spring weather with wildflowers blooming across the mountains. Temperatures hit 20-25°C during the day but drop to near freezing at night. Roads are usually passable and the hiking is spectacular.
Winter (June-August) brings snow to the mountains and temperatures that can hit -10°C. Some highland lodges close completely, and 4WD becomes absolutely essential. But if you can handle the cold, the snow-covered peaks are genuinely stunning.
January through March is peak summer but also rainy season. Expect afternoon thunderstorms that can make mountain roads impassable. The upside? Waterfalls are at their most impressive and the landscape turns impossibly green.
Avoid April and May if possible – it's shoulder season with unpredictable weather and some tourist services shut down.
