Louisiana in August

Not the best time

August isn't ideal for Louisiana. Consider a different month.

All Months

Louisiana's weather operates on two settings: hot and humid, or cool and humid. Plan accordingly. October through April offers the most comfortable temperatures, with highs in the 60s-70s and lower humidity. This is festival season — Jazz Fest in April, Mardi Gras in February or March, and countless smaller celebrations throughout the winter months. December and January bring mild temperatures perfect for walking tours and outdoor dining. Hotel rates drop 30-40% outside of major events. Christmas in New Orleans feels magical with bonfires along the levee and Reveillon dinners at Creole restaurants. March kicks off crawfish season and spring festivals. The weather's perfect, but crowds return and prices jump. Book accommodations early. Summer (May through September) means sweat, afternoon thunderstorms, and hurricane season. But it also means fewer tourists, cheaper hotel rates, and locals-only experiences. If you can handle 90-degree days with 80% humidity, you'll have the place mostly to yourself. Avoid visiting during major hurricanes (obviously) and LSU football weekends if you're not into college sports chaos. Hotel rates in Baton Rouge triple during home games.
