Marseille in September

April through June is perfect — warm but not scorching, fewer crowds, and everything's open. May hits the sweet spot with 22°C temperatures and long days. September and October bring the same magic as spring, plus warmer sea temperatures if you're swimming in the calanques. Summer (July-August) gets brutal — 30°C+ heat, packed beaches, and inflated prices. But the city comes alive at night with outdoor concerts and festivals. Winter is mild (10-15°C) and rainy, but hotels drop to half-price and you'll have the museums to yourself. The mistral wind can be fierce any time of year, turning a pleasant day cold in minutes. Festival season runs May through September, with the best events being FID Marseille (documentary film festival) in July and Marsatac (music festival) in early summer.
