Masai Mara in October

Great time to visit

October is one of the best months to visit Masai Mara.

All Months

The Great Migration dominates timing discussions, but it shouldn't be your only consideration. July through October brings the famous river crossings as wildebeest herds move from Tanzania into Kenya. Peak season means premium prices and crowded crossing points — sometimes 20+ vehicles watching a single crossing. But January through March offers incredible predator action with fewer crowds and lower rates. Big cats are easier to spot when grass is shorter. April and May bring long rains, turning roads muddy and some camps close entirely. However, this is calving season in the southern Serengeti, just across the border. November and December offer short rains, lush landscapes, and excellent bird watching as European migrants arrive. Here's the insider scoop: late June and early July can be magic if migration timing is right — you get the action without peak season crowds. Weather patterns are shifting with climate change, so migration timing isn't as predictable as it once was.
