Micronesia in May
Great time to visit
May is one of the best months to visit Micronesia.
All Months
Micronesia's dry season runs December through May, offering the most reliable weather for diving and island hopping. Trade winds keep temperatures comfortable in the mid-80s, and rainfall drops significantly. This is peak season, so book accommodations early. January through March offers the calmest seas — crucial for diving the deeper WWII wrecks in Chuuk Lagoon. Visibility underwater reaches 100+ feet during these months. April and May bring slightly warmer temperatures but still excellent conditions. The wet season from June through November isn't necessarily bad — just wetter and more humid. Rainfall comes in heavy bursts rather than all-day drizzle. But here's the advantage: fewer tourists and lower accommodation rates. Diving remains excellent year-round since water temperatures stay around 82°F. Hurricane season officially runs June through December, but direct hits are rare. Most storms pass well north of the islands. Typhoons are more concerning — they can shut down flights for days. October through December sees the highest typhoon risk. For cultural experiences, timing matters less. Traditional ceremonies and festivals happen throughout the year, often with little advance notice. Village life continues regardless of weather. The key is building flexibility into your schedule since weather can delay flights between islands.
