Minneapolis in April
Good time to visit
April is a reasonable time to visit Minneapolis.
All Months
Summer hits different in Minneapolis. June through August sees 80-degree days, outdoor concerts at the Minnesota Zoo, and every lake packed with paddlers. The State Fair runs late August into September - a legitimate cultural experience involving cheese curds and crop art.
Fall brings perfect weather and fewer crowds. September and October offer 60-70 degree days, fall colors around the lakes, and the return of theater season. Hotel rates drop 30% after Labor Day.
Winter separates visitors from locals. January averages 13 degrees with regular snow. But the skyway system keeps you warm, and ice fishing on Lake Minnetonka becomes a legitimate activity. The Walker Art Center's indoor spaces feel extra cozy.
Spring arrives slowly. April can still hit freezing, but by May the city awakens. Outdoor patios reopen, the Twins start their season, and everyone emerges from hibernation with serious enthusiasm. Book early - locals are equally eager to get outside.
