Nebraska in February

Not the best time

February isn't ideal for Nebraska. Consider a different month.

All Months

April through May is magic. The prairie grass turns bright green and wildflowers bloom everywhere. Temperatures hit the 70s and you get those dramatic Nebraska thunderstorms rolling across the plains. Plus, spring migration brings millions of sandhill cranes to the Platte River. The sound is incredible - like nature's own symphony. September and October deliver perfect weather. Highs in the 70s, cool nights, and the cottonwoods along the rivers turn gold. This is peak time for hiking and camping. The State Fair happens in late August in Grand Island if you want the full Nebraska experience. Summer gets hot and humid. July temperatures can hit 95 degrees with matching humidity. But the lakes and rivers provide relief. Lake McConaughy stays cool even when the air temperature soars. Winter is brutal. Not just cold - we're talking below zero with wind that cuts through everything. But if you can handle it, the Sandhills covered in snow look like the surface of another planet. And indoor attractions like the Durham Museum in Omaha are less crowded.
