The coast stays 10 degrees cooler than Charlotte, where July temperatures routinely hit 95°F. Winter skiing exists at Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain, but conditions vary wildly. Hurricane season runs June through November, with the Outer Banks taking direct hits every few years. Check forecasts religiously if visiting the coast between August and October.
