North Dakota in July
Great time to visit
July is one of the best months to visit North Dakota.
All Months
May through September gives you the best weather, but each month has its personality. May can be muddy from snowmelt, but wildflowers start blooming on the prairie. June and July are peak season — warm days, long daylight hours (sunset after 9 PM), but also peak tourist crowds at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. August brings county fairs and harvest festivals. September is underrated — cooler temperatures, fewer bugs, and the cottonwoods turn golden along the Little Missouri River. Winter is brutal but beautiful if you're prepared. January averages -3°F in Bismarck. Come for cross-country skiing and ice fishing, but pack serious cold-weather gear.
