Northern Wisconsin in March
Good time to visit
March is a reasonable time to visit Northern Wisconsin.
All Months
Summer is peak season for good reason. June through August brings perfect weather for swimming, boating, and fishing. Water temperatures hit 70+ degrees by July, and the bugs aren't too terrible if you stick near the water. Book accommodations months ahead — popular resorts fill up by February for summer stays.
September is the sweet spot if you can swing it. Kids are back in school so crowds thin out, but the weather stays warm enough for lake activities. Fall colors peak in late September to early October, turning drives along Highway 51 into scenic tours.
Winter transforms the region completely. Snowmobile season typically runs December through March, with 500+ miles of groomed trails. Cross-country skiing and ice fishing keep things interesting, but many lakefront resorts close November through April. Stick to places like Eagle River or Minocqua if you're visiting in winter.
