Northwest Montana in November

Not the best time

November isn't ideal for Northwest Montana. Consider a different month.

All Months

July and August deliver peak conditions but also peak crowds and prices. Going-to-the-Sun Road fully opens around late June — sometimes July in heavy snow years. Wildflowers explode in alpine meadows during this window. But here's the secret: September rocks. Crowds thin, temperatures stay pleasant, and larch trees turn golden in the high country. You'll catch the best wildlife viewing as animals prepare for winter. June works if you don't mind snow at higher elevations and limited road access. October brings the first serious snow, but fall colors pop around Flathead Lake. Winter transforms the region into a completely different destination. Whitefish Mountain Resort offers excellent skiing from December through April. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing open up Glacier's winter landscape, though most park roads close. Spring arrives late — May still sees snow in the mountains, and many park facilities don't open until Memorial Day weekend.
