Northwest Wyoming in September
Great time to visit
September is one of the best months to visit Northwest Wyoming.
All Months
June through September offers your best shot at clear roads and open trails. July and August bring peak crowds—expect hour-long waits at Old Faithful and $500 hotel rates in Jackson. But the weather's reliable, with 70-degree days and cool mountain nights. September might be the sweet spot: aspen trees turn gold, elk start bugling, and tourist hordes thin out. You'll still need layers—mountain weather changes fast. June can be muddy as snow melts, but wildflowers explode across alpine meadows. October through May means snow, lots of it. Some park roads close completely. If you're here for skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, December through March offers world-class powder. Just know that many restaurants and attractions shut down during shoulder seasons.
