Old Town (Staré Město) in January

Not the best time

January isn't ideal for Old Town (Staré Město). Consider a different month.

All Months

April through June gives you the best weather without summer's crushing crowds. The city wakes up from winter, outdoor seating returns, and you can actually move through Old Town Square without playing human bumper cars. September and October are magical. The crowds thin out, but the weather stays warm enough for evening walks. Plus, you get autumn colors in Petřín Park just across the river. July and August bring 30°C heat and tour groups from every corner of Europe. If you come in summer, start your days at 7am and retreat to air-conditioned museums during afternoon heat waves. The Astronomical Clock area becomes unbearable between noon and 4pm. Winter has its charm - Christmas markets, fewer tourists, and cozy pubs - but prepare for grey skies and temperatures around freezing. The upside? Hotel prices drop by 40% and you'll have those medieval streets mostly to yourself. Easter week is beautiful but busy. Book accommodation months ahead and expect higher prices.
