Peru in December
Not the best time
December isn't ideal for Peru. Consider a different month.
All Months
May through September brings Peru's dry season — perfect for hiking but also peak crowds and prices. June and July see the most tourists at Machu Picchu, so book train tickets early. August offers ideal weather but expect company on popular trails. September hits the sweet spot with good weather and fewer crowds. October through April brings rain, especially in mountain regions. But here's the thing: shoulder seasons have advantages. March and April offer lush green landscapes and cheaper accommodations. Coast stays dry year-round, so Lima works anytime. Amazon regions get wettest December through March, but wildlife viewing peaks during these months. Dry season (June-August) makes river levels low, limiting boat access to remote areas.
