Preikestolen in March

Not the best time

March isn't ideal for Preikestolen. Consider a different month.

All Months

May through September gives you the best shot at decent weather and fully accessible trails. July and August are peak season – expect crowds, especially on weekends and Norwegian holidays. But the weather is most reliable, with long daylight hours and minimal snow on the trail. June and September offer a sweet spot: fewer people, still good weather, and in September you might catch some early autumn colors. May can be beautiful but unpredictable – you might hit snow patches or muddy conditions. The trail officially closes in winter due to ice and snow, though some experienced hikers attempt it with proper gear. Avoid late October through March unless you're equipped for serious winter conditions. For the best experience, start your hike early – by 7 AM if possible. This gets you to the top before the main crowds arrive and gives you better light for photos.
