Puerto Rico in September
Not the best time
September isn't ideal for Puerto Rico. Consider a different month.
All Months
December through April delivers Puerto Rico at its absolute best. Temperatures hover in the low 80s, humidity drops to bearable levels, and rain stays minimal. This is peak season, so expect higher hotel rates and crowded beaches, especially around Christmas and Easter.
May and November work as shoulder seasons with good weather and better deals. You might catch some rain, but it usually comes in quick afternoon showers that clear fast. Hotel rates drop 20-30% compared to winter months.
Summer brings heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms. But it also brings lower prices and fewer crowds. If you can handle 85-90°F temperatures and don't mind ducking inside during daily rain showers, you'll save money and have beaches mostly to yourself.
Hurricane season officially runs June through November, with peak risk in August and September. Modern weather tracking gives plenty of warning, but consider travel insurance if booking during these months. Hurricane Maria in 2017 reminded everyone that these storms can be serious business.
The island's microclimates mean weather varies by region. The rainforest areas around El Yunque see more precipitation year-round. The south coast stays drier than the north. Mountain areas like Adjuntas can be 10-15 degrees cooler than the coast.
