Quintana Roo in January
Great time to visit
January is one of the best months to visit Quintana Roo.
All Months
November through April delivers the sweet spot - dry weather, comfortable temperatures, and manageable humidity. December and January see the most crowds and highest prices, but the weather stays nearly perfect with highs around 82°F and minimal rain.
March brings spring breakers to Cancún and Playa del Carmen, creating party atmospheres but also inflated prices and packed beaches. April offers a good compromise - warm weather without the spring break chaos.
May through October brings heat, humidity, and rain. But here's the upside: hotel rates drop by 40-50%, cenotes feel refreshingly cool, and afternoon thunderstorms provide dramatic skies for photos. Just pack an umbrella and plan indoor activities for rainy afternoons.
Hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk in September and October. Most storms pass without major impact, but flight cancellations and resort closures can disrupt plans.
Avoid Christmas week and Easter if you want to dodge crowds and save money. Shoulder seasons (late April-May and November) offer the best balance of good weather and reasonable prices.
For diving, visibility peaks December through April. Whale shark season runs June through September near Isla Mujeres - worth timing your trip around if you're interested.
