Rioja in April
Great time to visit
April is one of the best months to visit Rioja.
All Months
September and October are magical—harvest season means the vineyards buzz with activity, temperatures hover around 22°C, and many wineries offer picking experiences. The downside? Everyone knows this is peak season, so book accommodations months ahead. April through June offers perfect weather without the crowds, plus spring in wine country is genuinely stunning with wildflowers everywhere. July and August get hot—we're talking 35°C+ some days—but early morning cellar tours stay cool, and long Spanish dinners starting at 10pm make sense. Winter isn't completely off-limits if you're into cozy bodega visits and hearty stews, but many smaller wineries close or reduce hours. The Batalla del Vino festival in Haro every June 29th is absolutely wild—thousands of people show up in white clothes to throw wine at each other. Book a year ahead if you want to witness this madness.
