River North in July

May through September gives you the full River North experience — rooftop season, outdoor dining, and warm nights perfect for bar hopping along Rush Street. Summer weekends get absolutely packed, especially during Lollapalooza in August when hotel prices double and every restaurant has a two-hour wait. June hits the sweet spot with perfect weather and slightly fewer crowds than peak summer. September might be the best month overall — warm days, cool evenings, and the return of happy hour specials after the summer tourist rush. Winter dining here is still excellent, but you lose the rooftop bars and outdoor patios that make River North special. Spring can be unpredictable — one day it's 70 degrees and perfect for walking, the next it's snowing sideways off Lake Michigan. Book restaurants well in advance during peak season, and expect to pay premium prices for hotels from May through Labor Day.
