Rwanda in July
Great time to visit
July is one of the best months to visit Rwanda.
All Months
June through September offers the best weather for gorilla trekking. The trails stay drier, though you'll still get muddy. December through February works well too — fewer crowds and the landscape stays green. March through May brings heavy rains that can make mountain roads impassable. But here's the thing about Rwanda's weather — it changes fast. Pack layers regardless of season. Mornings start cool, afternoons get warm, evenings turn chilly again. The dry seasons mean better wildlife viewing in Akagera National Park. Animals gather around water sources, making spotting easier. For cultural events, plan around Kwibuka in April — the genocide remembrance period brings solemn ceremonies across the country. August sees the Kwita Izina gorilla naming ceremony, though getting tickets requires advance planning. The coffee harvest happens twice yearly — March to May and September to December. Visit cooperatives during harvest season for the full experience.
