Sahara Desert in October

Great time to visit

October is one of the best months to visit Sahara Desert.

All Months

October through April offers the most comfortable desert conditions, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20-30°C and cool nights that might require a jacket. December and January are peak months — expect crowds in popular spots like Merzouga and higher prices for accommodations. November and March provide the sweet spot of good weather with fewer tourists. Summer months from May to September are brutally hot, with temperatures regularly exceeding 45°C during the day. However, summer brings lower prices and empty desert camps. If you can handle the heat, you'll have the Sahara largely to yourself. Winter nights can drop below freezing, especially in higher elevation areas like the Atlas foothills. Pack layers regardless of season — desert temperature swings are extreme. Sandstorms are most common during spring months, particularly March and April. The harmattan winds can reduce visibility to near zero and coat everything in fine dust. Ramadan affects travel in Muslim countries, with reduced daylight services and closed restaurants, but also creates unique cultural experiences for respectful visitors.
