Sahara (Erg Chebbi) in July
Not the best time
July isn't ideal for Sahara (Erg Chebbi). Consider a different month.
All Months
October through April offers the sweet spot – warm days, cool nights, and minimal chance of sandstorms. December and January nights can drop to near freezing, but the clear skies make for incredible stargazing.
March and April bring wildflowers to the desert's edges after winter rains. The contrast of green against golden sand creates Instagram gold.
Avoid May through September unless you enjoy 50°C heat and sand that burns through shoe soles. Summer also brings occasional sandstorms that can last for days.
Ramadan affects desert camps and restaurants in Merzouga. Many close during daylight hours, and the evening atmosphere changes completely. Check dates before booking.
Full moon periods light up the dunes like daylight – beautiful for photography but terrible for stargazing. New moon weekends offer the darkest skies and brightest Milky Way views.
