Samoa (Savai'i) in May

Great time to visit

May is one of the best months to visit Samoa (Savai'i).

All Months

May through October delivers Savai'i at its finest. Trade winds keep temperatures around 82°F, rainfall drops to manageable levels, and ocean conditions stay calm enough for reliable ferry service. This dry season coincides with better surfing swells and clearer snorkeling visibility. June and July represent peak season—book accommodations well ahead since the island only has maybe 200 tourist beds total. Prices jump about 20% during these months, and popular spots like Aganoa Beach see their heaviest crowds (which still means maybe a dozen people). September offers the sweet spot of great weather without peak pricing. The trade winds still blow strong, keeping bugs manageable, and you'll have beaches almost entirely to yourself. October extends this shoulder season with slightly more rainfall but excellent value. Avoid November through April unless you don't mind daily downpours and cyclone season anxiety. The wet season brings flooding that can cut off remote beaches for days, and ferry services face regular cancellations. Plus, humidity makes everything feel like a steam bath.
