San Luis Obispo in February

Not the best time

February isn't ideal for San Luis Obispo. Consider a different month.

All Months

San Luis Obispo shines brightest from April through October, when the weather stays consistently pleasant and outdoor activities beckon. Summer brings perfect beach weather to nearby Pismo and Avila Beach, with temperatures in the mid-70s and minimal fog. Fall might be the secret best season. September and October deliver warm days, cool nights, and wine harvest season in full swing. Edna Valley vineyards offer harvest experiences, and the college students return to energize downtown without overwhelming it. Spring blooms beautifully here, especially in the surrounding hills. Wildflowers peak in March and April, making hikes up Bishop Peak or Madonna Mountain particularly rewarding. Winter stays mild — rarely dropping below 40 degrees — but brings most of the year's rain between December and February. You'll still find plenty to do, just pack a light jacket and maybe an umbrella. Avoid graduation weekend in June if you're not connected to Cal Poly. Hotel prices spike, restaurants book solid, and parking becomes nearly impossible downtown. The same goes for major wine events like the SLO Wine Festival in May.
