Sea of Cortez in February

Great time to visit

February is one of the best months to visit Sea of Cortez.

All Months

October through April delivers perfect weather – sunny days in the 70s and 80s, cool nights, and calm seas. This is prime time for whale watching, as gray whales migrate through from December to March, and blue whales show up year-round. Winter months (December-February) can get surprisingly cool, especially on the water. Pack layers and a light jacket for early morning boat trips. But the upside? Fewer crowds and lower prices on accommodations. May and September work if you don't mind heat. Temperatures climb into the 90s, but the water stays comfortable and you'll have beaches mostly to yourself. Just avoid July and August when it's genuinely miserable – think 100+ degrees with high humidity. Hurricane season (June-October) brings risk of storms, though direct hits are rare. More likely, you'll deal with choppy seas and cloudy skies that put a damper on snorkeling and diving plans.
