Shaanxi in April

Spring and fall hit the sweet spot here. April and May bring mild weather and blooming trees, though dust storms occasionally roll in from the Gobi Desert. September through November offers the best combination of clear skies and comfortable temperatures – perfect for climbing Huashan or exploring outdoor sites. Summers get brutally hot and humid, with temperatures hitting 40°C in July. Winters are cold and dry, but indoor heating is spotty outside major hotels. Chinese New Year turns the province into a ghost town as locals travel home, then everything reopens with a vengeance. Avoid the first week of October when domestic tourism peaks – the Terracotta Warriors become a human traffic jam.
