April through October offers the best weather, but each season brings different rewards. Spring (April-May) sees wildflowers around Lake Skadar and comfortable temperatures for castle exploring. Summer (June-August) can get hot — expect highs around 30°C — but the lake provides cooling relief. September and October might be ideal. Crowds thin out, temperatures drop to pleasant levels, and the light turns golden for photography. Lake Skadar's bird migration peaks in October, making it prime time for nature lovers. Winter isn't terrible if you're prepared for rain and shorter days. Many lake tour operators close, but the historic sites remain accessible. Hotel prices drop significantly, and you'll have Rozafa Castle mostly to yourself. Avoid major Albanian holidays unless you enjoy crowds. The Kala Festival in September brings music and cultural events but also higher prices and booked accommodations. Plan accordingly.
