May through October offers the best weather and access to outdoor activities, but each month brings different advantages. May sees wildflowers blooming and waterfalls at their fullest from snowmelt, but water sports are still too cold for most people. June and July provide ideal conditions for everything - warm enough for swimming, long daylight hours, and all trails accessible. Expect crowds during these peak months, especially around Bovec. August continues the perfect weather but brings the heaviest tourist traffic and highest prices. September might be the sweet spot - still warm enough for water activities, but with fewer crowds and stunning autumn colors beginning to appear. October works well for hiking and sightseeing, though water sports wind down and some mountain trails may see early snow. Winter transforms the valley into a quieter, more contemplative place, but many tourist services close and weather can be unpredictable. The river never freezes, maintaining that emerald color year-round.
