Solo in April

April through September gives you Solo's sweet spot. The dry season means less humidity and clearer skies for exploring the kratons and wandering through traditional markets. May and June are particularly perfect – warm enough for comfortable walking but not the scorching heat that hits later in the year. Ramadan brings a special energy to the city. The breaking of fast at Alun-Alun Utara turns into a massive street food festival every evening. But some restaurants close during daylight hours, so plan accordingly. July and August see more domestic tourists, especially around Keraton Surakarta, but Solo never feels truly crowded. The city's pace stays steady regardless of season. Avoid October through March if you can. The wet season brings afternoon downpours that flood the narrow streets and make getting around more challenging. Though there's something romantic about watching rain fall on the red-tiled roofs from a covered warung, sipping hot tea while the city waits out another tropical storm.
