Sonoma County in October
Great time to visit
October is one of the best months to visit Sonoma County.
All Months
April through June gives you the county at its most beautiful — wildflowers bloom in the hills, weather stays in the 70s, and you'll avoid the summer crowds. This is when locals actually have time to chat at tasting rooms. Fall harvest season from September through November brings a different energy. Crush happens in the early morning, so you might see grape trucks rumbling down country roads at 6 AM. The weather stays warm into October, perfect for outdoor dining. But here's what guidebooks won't tell you: winter has its charms. January through March means fewer tourists, lower hotel rates, and winemakers who aren't exhausted from harvest. Rain turns the hills emerald green, and many restaurants offer special winter menus featuring local mushrooms and citrus. Summer gets hot — often hitting the 90s inland — and busy. July and August see the highest hotel rates and longest waits at popular restaurants. But if you don't mind the crowds, summer also brings outdoor concerts at wineries and farmers markets in full swing. December can be magical if you hit it right — holiday lights in Healdsburg's town square, special wine releases, and cozy fireplaces at places like Farmhouse Inn.
