Sonoma Wine Region in December

Not the best time

December isn't ideal for Sonoma Wine Region. Consider a different month.

All Months

September through November brings harvest season and perfect weather. Temperatures hover around 75°F during the day, dropping to the 50s at night. You'll see grape pickers working before dawn and smell fermentation in the air. But expect crowds and higher prices — hotel rates jump 30% during harvest. Spring (April through June) offers the best value. Mustard flowers bloom yellow between vineyard rows, creating Instagram-worthy landscapes. Rain rarely falls, and hotel rates drop significantly. The downside? Some wineries reduce their hours or close for barrel tastings. Winter gets overlooked, but January through March has its charm. Tasting rooms feel cozy with fireplaces crackling, and you'll often have winemakers' full attention. Just bring layers — mornings can hit 35°F before warming to 65°F by afternoon.
