South Asia in May

Good time to visit

May is a reasonable time to visit South Asia.

All Months

November through March is prime time - clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and festival season. December and January are perfect for Rajasthan's deserts and Kerala's backwaters. The monsoon from June to September transforms the landscape but brings flooding and travel delays. Skip April and May unless you enjoy 40°C heat. Diwali in October or November lights up the entire subcontinent. Holi in March covers everyone in colored powder - join the celebration in Mathura or Vrindavan for the authentic experience. Nepal's trekking season runs October to December and March to May. Sri Lanka has two monsoon seasons, so timing depends on which coast you're visiting. Pakistan's northern areas are best from May to September when mountain passes open.
