Svaneti in December

June through September offers the only reliable window for exploring Svaneti. July and August bring the warmest weather and clearest mountain views, but also the biggest crowds and highest guesthouse prices. June can be muddy from snowmelt, while September delivers crisp air and autumn colors but shorter days. Winter transforms the region into a snowy wonderland, but most roads become impassable and many guesthouses close. The new Hatsvali ski resort near Mestia operates from December to March, but you'll need serious cold-weather gear. Spring comes late here — expect snow patches into May and muddy trails that make hiking miserable.
