Thar Desert in June

Not the best time

June isn't ideal for Thar Desert. Consider a different month.

All Months

October through March is your window. December and January are perfect – daytime temperatures hit a comfortable 24°C while nights drop to 8°C. You'll need layers. April starts getting brutal with temperatures climbing past 40°C. By May, it's genuinely dangerous to be outdoors during midday. Monsoon arrives in July but barely touches the desert – Jaisalmer gets just 16cm of rain annually. The upside of shoulder seasons? Fewer tourists and better prices. November offers the best of both worlds – pleasant weather and reasonable crowds. February brings the Desert Festival in Jaisalmer with camel races and folk performances, but hotel prices triple. Here's what locals won't tell you – March mornings are gorgeous but afternoons get uncomfortably hot. If you're doing camel safaris, book for early morning or late afternoon. Never attempt desert camping between April and September.
