The Loop in September

Great time to visit

September is one of the best months to visit The Loop.

All Months

Summer is when the Loop comes alive, but it's also when everyone else figures that out too. June through August means festival crowds, higher hotel prices, and long lines at Millennium Park. But the weather's perfect for walking around, and the outdoor concerts at Pritzker Pavilion are worth dealing with the masses. September and October might be the sweet spot. The crowds thin out after Labor Day, but the weather stays warm enough for comfortable exploring. Plus, fall in Chicago hits different — those skyscrapers look even more dramatic against autumn skies. Winter gets cold. Really cold. But here's the thing: the Loop keeps moving no matter what. The pedway system connects most major buildings underground, so you can hotel-hop and hit attractions without facing the wind. Holiday decorations along State Street create a proper winter wonderland, and hotel rates drop significantly. Spring can be unpredictable — you might get 70 degrees and sunshine or 40 degrees and sleet, sometimes in the same day. But if you can handle the weather roulette, April and May offer fewer crowds and reasonable prices.
