Torres del Paine National Park in January

Great time to visit

January is one of the best months to visit Torres del Paine National Park.

All Months

Patagonian summer runs November through March, but 'best' depends on what you can handle. December and January offer the longest days—sunrise around 5am, sunset after 10pm—but also the biggest crowds and highest prices. November brings wildflowers and fewer people, but weather remains unpredictable. February and March offer more stable conditions as summer winds down. Shoulder seasons mean cheaper accommodation but shorter daylight hours. Winter (June-August) closes most trails and refugios. Only experienced mountaineers should consider winter visits, and even then, many areas become inaccessible. Spring (September-October) brings fierce winds and variable weather. The famous Patagonian winds blow year-round but peak in summer. Gusts regularly hit 60-80mph, strong enough to knock you off balance. Plan rest days into your itinerary—some days the weather simply won't cooperate with hiking plans.
