Transylvania in January

Not the best time

January isn't ideal for Transylvania. Consider a different month.

All Months

May through October gives you the best weather window, but each month brings different perks. May and September are sweet spots – mild temperatures, fewer crowds, and spring flowers or autumn colors in the countryside. Expect 15-20°C and occasional rain. Summer (June-August) brings 25-30°C temperatures perfect for hiking and outdoor exploration. But this is peak season, so Bran Castle will be packed and accommodation prices jump 30-50%. October delivers stunning fall colors across the Carpathian forests, though mountain weather turns unpredictable. Winter transforms the region into a Gothic fairy tale, especially around Christmas markets in Brașov and Sibiu. Snow blankets medieval rooftops from December through February, but many rural attractions close. Spring (March-April) can be muddy and unpredictable – beautiful one day, freezing rain the next.
