Trinidad and Tobago in May

Good time to visit

May is a reasonable time to visit Trinidad and Tobago.

All Months

Carnival season (January through March) transforms Trinidad into the Caribbean's biggest party. Hotel prices triple and you'll need to book months ahead, but the energy is infectious. Mas bands practice in the streets, calypso tents host nightly competitions, and the whole island pulses with music. April through August brings fewer crowds and lower prices. Temperatures hover around 85°F with afternoon showers that cool things down. Beach weather stays perfect year-round - water temperature never drops below 78°F. Rainy season runs September through November, but don't let that scare you. Showers usually last an hour then clear up. You'll get better hotel deals and restaurants to yourself. Just avoid late October when storms can disrupt ferry service between islands. December kicks off the Christmas season with parang music (Caribbean folk songs with Spanish influences) filling the air. New Year's Eve parties rival Carnival for intensity. Tobago Jazz Festival usually happens in April, drawing musicians from across the Caribbean.
