Tunisia in September

Great time to visit

September is one of the best months to visit Tunisia.

All Months

March through May gives you Tunisia at its absolute best. Temperatures hover around 22°C (72°F), perfect for exploring Carthage ruins without melting. The desert blooms with wildflowers after winter rains, and you can actually enjoy walking through Kairouan's medina without seeking shade every ten minutes. Fall works just as well. September through November brings warm days and cool evenings, ideal for those Sahara camping trips near Tozeur. The Mediterranean stays swimmable through October, and tourist crowds thin out after the European summer rush. Winter isn't terrible if you stick to the coast. Tunis gets chilly and rainy, but Djerba maintains pleasant 18°C (64°F) days. Just avoid the interior mountains — snow actually falls in Kasserine some years. Summer? Look, unless you're part lizard, skip July and August. Temperatures in the Sahara reach 50°C (122°F), and even coastal cities like Sousse become furnaces. The only upside: hotel prices drop by half, and you'll have ancient sites completely to yourself.
