Turku in June

July brings the Turku Music Festival, when classical concerts fill the castle courtyard and hotel prices double. But here's what guidebooks miss: May and September offer the sweet spot. Temperatures hit 15°C, tourist crowds thin out, and restaurant patios stay open with heat lamps. Winter transforms Turku into a different city entirely. Snow covers the castle grounds, Christmas markets fill the Old Town squares, and you can experience proper Finnish sauna culture without the summer tourist markup. Just pack serious winter gear - January temperatures drop to -10°C regularly.
