Virginia in April

Great time to visit

April is one of the best months to visit Virginia.

All Months

Fall owns Virginia. October brings peak foliage to the Blue Ridge Mountains, painting Skyline Drive in reds and golds. Temperatures hover around 70 degrees, perfect for hiking and wine tasting. But expect crowds and higher prices. Spring arrives early, usually by April. Dogwood and redbud trees bloom across the state. Weather stays mild through May – ideal for exploring historic sites without summer's humidity. Hotel rates remain reasonable. Summer means heat and humidity, especially in Tidewater regions. Virginia Beach peaks in July and August when temperatures hit the 80s. Mountain areas stay cooler, making Shenandoah a summer refuge. Winter brings quiet beauty to the mountains. Occasional snow dusts the Blue Ridge, creating postcard scenes. Many mountain lodges and restaurants close January through March. But you'll have trails mostly to yourself. Avoid late June through August if you hate humidity. The coast stays sticky, and inland areas feel swampy. November offers the best compromise – mild weather, fewer crowds, and fall colors lingering in the mountains.
