West Texas in March

October through April gives you perfect weather and clear skies. Temperatures hover in the 70s during the day, drop to the 40s at night. Summer will literally kill you — Big Bend hits 115°F regularly, and there's nowhere to hide. Spring brings wildflowers if winter rains cooperated, turning the desert into a carpet of bluebonnets and poppies. Fall delivers the clearest skies for stargazing at McDonald Observatory. Winter can surprise you with snow in the Davis Mountains, but most days stay sunny and mild. Avoid spring break and Thanksgiving when every college kid in Texas discovers Big Bend exists. The desert looks dead in summer heat, but it's just sleeping. Come back when temperatures drop and watch it wake up.
