Westminster in September
Great time to visit
September is one of the best months to visit Westminster.
All Months
April through September gives you the best weather for walking Westminster's outdoor attractions. The parks bloom beautifully in spring, and summer evenings along the Thames stretch until 9 PM.
Parliament sits from October to July, so visit during session for the full political theater. Prime Minister's Questions happens Wednesdays at noon – free tickets available but book early.
August sees Parliament in recess, making Whitehall quieter but some attractions less exciting. The upside: shorter queues at Westminster Abbey and better restaurant availability.
Winter brings Christmas markets to Parliament Square and fewer crowds at major sites. But daylight disappears by 4 PM, cutting short your sightseeing time.
Avoid visiting during state visits or major political events unless you enjoy road closures and security cordons. Check the royal family's calendar before booking.
Weekends feel different here – quieter government buildings, more families in the parks, different energy entirely.
