Whitefish in March

Good time to visit

March is a reasonable time to visit Whitefish.

All Months

Summer brings perfect weather and endless outdoor activities. July and August see temperatures in the 80s with cool nights perfect for sleeping. Every trail in Glacier National Park is accessible, and Whitefish Lake warms up enough for swimming. But you'll share the town with peak tourist crowds and pay premium accommodation rates. Winter transforms Whitefish into a legitimate ski destination. December through February delivers consistent snow and fewer crowds than Colorado resorts. January averages 20 degrees — cold but manageable with proper gear. The mountain gets 300+ inches annually, and lift tickets cost $89 compared to $200+ at Aspen. Shoulder seasons offer the best value. June brings wildflowers and mild weather without summer crowds. September and October showcase fall colors, though some high-elevation trails may have early snow. Many restaurants reduce hours during these periods, so check before making dinner plans. Avoid April and May unless you enjoy mud season. Trails stay soggy, the ski mountain closes, and half the businesses shut down for maintenance. It's Montana's awkward phase — not quite spring, definitely not winter.
