Yorkshire Dales in January
Not the best time
January isn't ideal for Yorkshire Dales. Consider a different month.
All Months
May through September offers the best weather and longest days, but each month has its character. May brings bluebells in the woodlands and lambing season — the fields are full of bouncing sheep. June and July are peak walking season with wildflowers carpeting the meadows and 16-hour daylight. But crowds descend on popular spots like Malham Cove and Aysgarth Falls. August can be busy but offers the best chance of settled weather for multi-day hikes. September is ideal — fewer crowds, warm days, and the first hint of autumn colors. The shoulder seasons have their charms too. March and April can be glorious if you hit a high-pressure system, with crisp air and views that stretch for miles. October brings stunning autumn colors, especially in the deciduous woods around Bolton Abbey. Winter is harsh but beautiful — the fells wear caps of snow and the pubs become cozy refuges. Just check weather forecasts religiously and carry proper gear. The Dales weather can change in minutes.
