Yucatán Peninsula in May

Good time to visit

May is a reasonable time to visit Yucatán Peninsula.

All Months

November through April delivers the most comfortable weather – warm days around 80°F, cool evenings, and minimal rain. This is peak season, so expect higher prices and more crowds at major attractions. Book accommodations well in advance, especially for December and January. May gets hot and humid before the rains arrive. But here's the upside: cenotes feel incredible when it's 95°F outside, and you'll have many archaeological sites nearly to yourself. Hotel prices drop significantly. June through October brings the rainy season, but don't let that scare you off completely. Rain usually comes in afternoon downpours that clear quickly, leaving the air fresh and temperatures more bearable. Hurricane season runs June to November, with September and October being the riskiest months. For the best balance of weather, crowds, and prices, visit in November or April. You'll get mostly dry weather without the peak season premiums. Plus, cenote water stays a constant 75°F year-round, so swimming is always perfect. Avoid Christmas and New Year unless you book months ahead and don't mind paying double for everything. Spring break (March-April) brings college crowds to the beach towns but doesn't affect inland destinations much.
